5Realms

Citizens of 5 Realms are happy and prosperous under the great signs of suits in Mac game 5 Realms until the evil forces destroyed everything in the neat and orderly kingdom. They need your help to restore the magic signs of suits to the card realm. If you are up to the challenge of this different kind of solitaire play with 70 levels and mini games to perk your game playing interest, 5 Realms will satisfy your curiosity and test your valor.

The play is to join together in a chain sequence by matching either the higher or lower card of the previous card. The ace can be joined to 2 or highest card. Your challenge is to make the longest chain possible. As the levels increase there are more cards to deal with, and more blocks to make the game difficult. You initially start out with cards from the ace to the number 4. You can chain the ace with either the number 2 or 4. After some levels, the game adds the 5 cards and then the ace can be chained to 2 or 5.

Frozen cards cannot be joined. Be sure to use cards with a snowflake right away to get rid of these or they will freeze out one or more cards after each move. Cards with a fold will change their ranks, the joker can be chained to any card, and court (picture) cards cannot be used so get rid of them by lowering them to the bottom of the game board. The blank cards are wiped out of its rank and in order to restore them must make 2 chains around them.

One of the fun mini games is with 3 cards, one an ace, faced down and shuffled. The object is to pick out which card is the ace. The old pea under the walnut shell game is still classic and enjoyable.

I found 5 Realms to be a relaxing, but challenging Mac game. With the increased difficulties and blocks, the play became more enjoyable. The mini games are lively and interesting diversions from the main play. I give 5 Realms 4 out of 5 stars for a pleasurable time.

Jets ‘n’ Guns Gold Review

Jets n Guns

Jets ‘n’ Guns Gold. The name grabs you immediately and is basically exactly what you would expect: Jets and Guns. You are a fighter pilot in space who has to take down an entire army of attackers by yourself. Like any good shooter game, the opening screen starts by telling you how graphic and bloody the game will be.  Get ready to shoot-up some spaceships.

To start, there are three levels of difficulty: way too easy, regular and hard.  After you choose this, you get to upgrade your spaceship with different types of guns and bombs.  To add more upgrades, you earn money for completing the stage and destroying everything in your path.  The game is fairly simple, as you shoot and bomb while avoiding bullets and large objects that cause you harm.  The cool part about that is that most of the level can be destroyed, creating a clear path by enemies.

The objective is fairly self explanitory, as the title of the game suggested and Jets ‘n’ Guns Gold is pretty fun.  It was very difficult on the upper levels, but if you enjoy a challenge this is the Mac game for you.  If I could change something, it would be the amount of enemies because there are parts of the game where it is too overwhelming.  Other than that, the graphics were amazing, the story was subpar but not essential to gameplay, and the controls worked excellently.  I would give this game three and a half stars out of five.
