Powered by the Torque Game Builder, my first thoughts about Arch Mage was a Mac game that can compare to Marble Blast Ultra because both may have similar creators. Instead of a bouncing maze game, I was surprised to find that Arch Mage is a scrolling action shooter based upon a magical realm of good vs. evil. The main hero in this quest, to vanquish enemies across the land, is a courageous wizard riding a giant dragon. Now any game with riding dragons is a major plus in my book, yet Arch Mage was full of much more. While flying left and right across the screen, the wizard or mage fires his magic atop the dragon into the oncoming foes. If you ever played Space Invaders or the WWII game 1942, then Arch Mage is the perfect fit.
The graphics in Arch Mage are an interesting mix between 3-D and 2-D because the main view is above everything on the ground. Gameplay is easy to pick up and the power-ups are very hands-on as you, the mage, create power-ups in your magical cauldron from the relics picked up from enemies.
Arch Mage has it all: dragons, unicorns, and witch cauldrons. All it needs now is a broom and Ron Weasly and it would be complete. I rate Arch Mage a four stars out of five.
