Archibald’s Adventures Review

Archibald's Adventures

Archibald’s Adventures is a clever platform game that incorporates both mad scientists and skateboarding (who wouldn’t like that?). The story starts with a kid named Archibald who accidentally falls into a sewer pipe while skateboarding with some of his friends. However, this is no regular sewer pipe; it is the entrance to a mad scientists underground lair. Unfortunately for Archie, the mad scientist recently had a problem with his experiments, which inexplicably mutated and are on the loose. Now, it is Archibald’s job to escape from the monsters and help the mad scientist regain control of his laboratory.

The game opens with you (Archibald) on a your skateboard maneuvering through a underground sewer-lair. Through out the beginning levels, you slowly learn new skills that are available to Archibald (like the power of bubble gum). There are 8 levels, each consisting of 16 stages, except for the final level, which you will have to play to find out what happens.

Platform games are typically one of my favorite types of games, and Archibald’s Adventures was very entertaining. The clever design of the levels as well as the interesting gameplay make it different from a usual “Mario” clone. The main difference I like is that there is no button to “jump.” The character automatically jumps when you approach something that needs to be scaled. Although this may sound kind of inconvenient, I never came across a situation where I thought a manual jump button was necessary. In addition, the gameplay was continuous and smooth, with little to no load time between levels. Help signs pop up in convenient spots and make the gameplay easier. However the entire game does not include help the entire time, as gameplay quickly becomes more and more challenging in later levels.

Overall, I enjoyed Archibald’s Adventures and would give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

Rating: ★★★½☆

I thought this game was good, but it lacked characteristics such as the incorporation of dragons and/or Harry Potter characters therefore making it a waste of time in my book
