With a title like Ancient Secrets, this hidden object/seek and find game with a little rpg play should draw you in to the deepest unknown world of early indigenous people. These people were known as the Tekka who hid all their valuable assets by dividing and hiding their treasures.

You are Kate whose father has a piece of the puzzle to the mysteries of the Tekka. You are to contact, search and solve all the pieces to the Tekka’s secrets in the form of hidden object games and logic puzzles. You speak to people with exclamation points above their heads in order to receive your tasks and clues. During the course of this game you help people with their work in order to get clues or pieces of the puzzle. Besides the HOGs there are many mini games. One game is to click on pearls sitting in clams before the clams shut close. Another is to match fishing lures. I can’t believe the lures look very similar to each other. Other plays are the memory game, figure out the telephone number and slide the bars in order for your piece to exit the board.

I thought this game was okay but not very exciting. The hidden object/seek and find portion of the game did not peak my interest or want to continue with my search. The logic games were not that challenging, but some fun to do. A lot of HOGs are mysterious and intriguing, but Ancient Secrets could have been any other game going from town to town searching different types of venues, playing hidden object game and speaking to different types of people. I give this game 3.0 for nice artwork.

Boonka Review

With 60 levels, 3 game modes 15 power-ups and bonuses, and 41 challenges, Mac puzzle game Boonka will keep you busy for many hours. It’s a challenging play with fun, cute graphics, and a plea to restore the beautiful, green landscape of the Boonkas.

The evil Skours (dark clouds) have destroyed the countryside where the Boonkas reside and it is up to you to bring back the trees and flora. The play is to move similar Boonkas side by side to match and create a block then you need to put together the pixie jars in order to lift the boonkas up and away. You click and drag a boonka to group them. You can move them up down and side ways. Just make sure the boonkas do not reach the top of the screen or the game is over.

Boonka is not a match game. It is a lot more. You need to think and plan ahead so you do not get to the top of the screen. It can get challenging at times so I suggest you start off in the easy mode until you get your sea legs. Once you master the play, it becomes even more difficult, but addictive at the same time. Initially, I thought this was a children’s game with its cute cartoon boonkas, but quickly learned it is a game for everyone.

Word Cross Review

word-cross-3

I have been doing crosswords, word puzzles, sudokus, and kakuros daily for many years so when I saw the Mac game Word Cross, I thought it was a perfect match for me. Word Cross is a complete the phrase with letter clues given by placing words, provided in the sidebar, in a crossword-like grid on the game broad. It is a Wheel of Fortune game without Vanna, prizes, and the wheel.

To complete a level you finish the grid or solve the phrase. If the basic puzzle is not enough for you, play the timed version. Each level gets harder and harder, and it may be a challenge for some. Also some of the words on the sidebar were a little esoteric, and you may need to keep a dictionary available to learn the meanings of the words.

Unfortunately, this game was not for me. Maybe I missed the giant wheel, but putting words in a grid did not do it for me. I think it would be an educational tool for a young child or someone who is learning English.  However, if you are a fan of solving the phrase puzzle, Word Cross is for you.
