Mac game Clueless is based on the 1995 Paramount movie of the same name starring Alicia Silverstone. Like the movie character Cher is out to help all her friends find the perfect guy. You go to different Beverly Hills shops in search of the right outfit for the models. There are over 500 articles of clothing and accessories to choose from for each friend.
In this game, fashion is everything. You will be presented with a style like Beverly Hills preppy or grunge and then you need to dress the model according to their style of choice. For preppy you are told it entails plaids, sequins, strappy, feathers, tight and ruffled. From the descriptions you are to make your decision on what each girl will wear. You click on the outfit and then on the model. If you change your mind, click again on the model to remove. After completing your outfit, you click on the go button and wait for your grades. You can earn extra points if you turn the boy’s head by matching fashion he likes. If you are lucky, you’ll get a shuffle power-up to reveal a bigger selection of clothes. In order for you to move on to the next level or mall, you must receive a grade of C or higher.
The bonus round is quite challenging if you are not a fashionista (I am not). You will be shown a model in a certain outfit for a few seconds (it’s fast) and you are to recreate the clothes the model was wearing and her pose. A side game is for you to choose a background like a farm and pose your model in different stances.
I never saw the movie but the people in the Mac game look a little familiar, and they resemble some movie/TV stars. The artwork is good, but the play, unless you are into fashion somewhat, is hard to figure out and enjoy. I don’t want to sound too sexist but I think this game is aimed towards girls. Don’t get me wrong, I found Fashion Cents a little more entertaining and challenging to play, but got nothing out of this game. I suggest you try it out and see if it fits your fashion style and recreate some fabulous outfits for your friends so they can find a boyfriend.
