Bob and Jane are treasure hunters looking for the lost Incan civilization through the jungles of the Amazon. Technically the Amazon is further east than the empires of the Inca but who knows, maybe Bob and Jane got lost? The cliff drawings they found revealed the golden city and hence, El Dorado Quest.
There are 7 amulets that need to be found to be able to access the city. However, each amulet is broken in several pieces. This match 3 game is a little different from some others because instead of destroying the tiles you will be making matches of 3 or more items to uncover gold tiles. This game has the usual power ups like the hammer that will destroy one item or the lightening bolt that will clear a whole vertical row.
As the levels increase, the matches become more difficult, but it still is fairly easy to play if you use your power ups. After you make all the tiles gold, you can bring down a piece of the amulet. In addition, Bob and Jane will show up on the grid and you must make matches so they can cross the board along a path.
The play and artwork is good, but I think the game would have been better if the matches could have sound effects of gems clashing loudly. The sound was a little muted. Games like Bejeweled depend on the sound effects to make the play more realistic, right? I also didn’t like the fact that you couldn’t make matches until the grid stopped moving. In Inner Quest you can make matches continuously while the items come flowing down the board. This type of action makes the match 3 games more dynamic and fun. The story was not as intense or interesting as in the Jewel Quest series, but still the search for El Dorado is always fun.
Other than that, El Dorado Quest is an easy play for new match 3 gamers. The increasingly challenging levels will come in later plays for the more experienced matchers. See what you find in this Mac match 3 game.
