Gem Shop Review

gem-shop-2

Gem Shop is an interesting match 3 gems or more Mac game. You are working in a jewelry shop making upscale shiny ornaments for your impatient customers. In order to keep them happy you must make 3 or more matches by sliding the rows and columns, side to side and up and down. This is similar to Chuzzle Deluxe without the expressive eyes.

The only eyes you’ll find on Gem Shop are on the restless customers. If you do not make matches fast enough their eyes narrow, and they are dissatisfied with your work. This can make you a little anxious especially if you are playing the Expert mode. If you are competitive, this is the mode to play. The profits are higher and the customers are more demanding. In fact, there is a warning for this level: Gem Shop experience recommended.

When the jewelry completion meter moves all the way to the right, the jewelry you are making by matching the gems is ready to be sold and satisfies the current customer. At the end of each day there is a sales goal to be met by you the employee. You are rated how well you sell, the amount of profit and any tokens you have earned to buy, what else? Jewelry.

If you break a gem, it cracks, the customer is unhappy and it will block your moves. This makes it difficult to make your matches, and you guessed it, the buyer squints his/her eyes and looks about to explode. It would have been fun to watch that happen.

I enjoy match games and this one was okay, but I could have used less story line and more play. Perhaps if there were more obstacles like the cracked gems, it would have improved the game for me, and I really didn’t see too much of a difference in the 2 modes. The most obvious difference showed up in the final evaluation; the expert level gave harsher reviews. If you are a match game player like me, try this game for some fun and try to make the customer happy.
