Home Sweet Home is for all those Mac gamers who dream of becoming the next Design Star on HGTV. Are you the up and coming Vern Yip? Try your hand at home decorating in this sim management play and decorate to your heart’s content.
You will be working for “Dee Ziner” who will assist you if you need her. The budget is set for you, and you must go about buying furniture and house decorating supplies. The 2 bars along the bottom of the screen show you the available choices of furnishings from wall coverings to sofas and lamps. You click on the category and that will open up your choices of furnishings that you can click and drag to the room. Right click or click on the rotate button next to the furniture to turn it around. The thumbs up sign a the top of the screen will show you that the customer is happy with your choice, but a thumbs down will lower the customer satisfaction meter. You must reach the dotted lines in that meter and buy the number of items listed in the upper right in order to start building. A thumbs down shows you that a basic rule of design has been broken and that item will turn red. You need to put the cursor on it to find out what the problem may be.
When the minimum requirements for decorating have been met the “Build Now” button will flash and you can start building your room. “Bill Dur” and his crew will come on the scene to start building. Each builder is dressed in different colors, and you match the same color items needing building to that builder. When the builders gets tired they will get grumpy and will not work very fast making you miss your deadlines. All you need to do is watch their meters at the bottom of the screen with their faces, and click on the coffee and drag it to the worker or their photo at the bottom to fill up their energy levels.
The obstacles are that the builders get tired, customers are unhappy and the furniture is too expensive and you do not meet your budget. You can always sell whatever you may not need in order to complete the level.
Home Sweet Home is a little tedious at times, but it is interesting to play none the less. I think all the decorators out there will do a great job on this game and should have a lot of fun.
