Molten Mystery

Guess who’s back again? Everyone’s favorite kooky scientist, Professor Fizzwizzle! This time the Professor finds himself in trouble while on vacation on a tropical island. A former student of his has become evil and has taken control of a volcano on the island. It is Professor Fizzwizzle’s job to save the world from this mysterious circumstance.

Molten Mystery is a sequel to the original Professor Fizzwizzle, and has almost the exact same gameplay as its predecessor. It is a puzzle-platform game that puts the weak Professor back into the action, pushing crates and barrels while avoiding evil bat bots. Once you push and stack the blocks in the way that works, you can make it to the exit portal and continue on to the next level.

If you are a fan of the previous Professor Fizzwizzle or the Professor Fizzlewizzle franchise in general you will like this game. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this sequel, as I am an avid PF follower. This was a solid addition to the franchise, with new power-ups (like a heat gun) and different enemies. The only problem some people may have is the lack of originality, but I say why fix what’s not broken. Overall, I would give this game four and a half stars out of five.

Fizzball

Professor Fizzwizzle is back! And this time, his crazy robots are working for him. He has decided to use his new invention, the Fizzball, to help animals in trouble. This ball starts out small, but slowly grows in size, as more and more animals are collected. The game has more than 60 animals to save and 180 levels to maneuver through.

One of the first things the game asks is whether you want to set the game to regular or kids mode. I find this very considerate of the creators because they realize that their demographic reaches further than just the teen/adult bracket. Kids can pick up the game and play without becoming too frustrated with some of the harder levels. I thought this was a nice touch.

Additionally, the game provides more than the usual breakout game. There are special power-ups that create new situations for Professor Fizzwizzle. For example, there are floating power-up balloons that you collect during the game that change either the Fizzball or the bumper. These include faster and slower balls, sticky bumpers, and wider bumpers to name just a few.

Although completely different from the original Professor Fizzwizzle game, Fizzball has the same familiar family feel as its predecessor. The graphics and main character are exactly the same and fans of the first game should feel at home with Fizzball. This game reminded me of a classic breakout game, brought to the barnyard. It was surprisingly fun even though I usually shy away from breakout games. The fact that I was drawn in by this so much is a testament to the quality and hard work the creators of this game have done. Although not quite deserving of the elusive “Macgames.info 5 star” (patent pending), this is a wonderful game and I would give Fizzball a four out of five.

Jig Words

One of my favorite genres is platform games. I was lucky enough to come across Professor Fizzwizzle because of the unique and humorous name. The story of the game is that the Professor was working in his lab one day, when he decided to invent robots to help him do some of his work. Everything was going fine, until he accidentally turned the switch from happy to mad. The professor was promptly thrown out of his lab by the robots and is now forced to make his way back inside.

Like other platform games, the character has to reach the exit in order to pass the stage.  You control the Professor, who is unfortunately uncoordinated.  He is unable to jump and can’t climb over obstacles.  In order to get through stages, you must push boxes, land on rolling barrels and trigger different switch-gates.  All this happens, while trying to avoid those evil Madbots who follow you when they see you.

This game was very fun and I really enjoyed the puzzle/platform style of the game.  However, I am inclined toward Mario-clone games, just because it is what I am used to, so I do prefer games where you have the ability to jump.  Besides that, Professor Fizzwizzle has some great graphics and a kid-friendly plot that everyone can enjoy.  There is also a feature that allows you to watch the computer solve the stage.  This takes away from the challenge, unless you have the self-control to avoid the free pass on some of the more difficult levels.  Overall, this was a solid game and I would give it 4 stars out of 5.
