Many Years Ago Review

Sim/rpg manage your own tribe of people games have similar plays and circumstances such as an isolated, limited area and usually in a tropical setting. Mac game Many Years Ago is no different except there are dinosaurs! Boggo Volcano destroyed everything the tribe had going and now it is up to you to rebuild and restore life before the big lava flow.

The play is similar to other games where you are in control as chief and must make the decision to assign each individual their tasks. You pick your gender and attributes. The chief’s stats are differentiated by a mask in the corner that will let you know what you need to do. You must assign your tribe tasks in order to survive the harsh conditions of the outdoors. Another benefit of being chief is the longevity flower that prolongs your life. As chief you click on a person and then click on the area you want them to work. For example, you choose your tribes person and then click on the coconut tree. This will make the person go and collect coconuts from the tree and these fruits will feed your hungry people. Building works the same way. In addition, you need to assign people to chop wood and chip rocks for building resources.

The tutorial is quite good and will show you what needs to be done and when. Hunger, thirst, tiredness are the main needs of the tribe and can be satisfied by gathering foods, going to the river and sleeping in the hut. Children will be born to the tribe in order for the village to grow. The kids do not work so you must build a pen to keep the children in tow.

There are a lot of things to do in Many Years Ago and you will find hours of activities for you or your children. This sim game is a little easier to play than some of the others like Virtual Villagers or My Tribe since it is not played in real time, but the time stops when you leave the game. This, however, made events happen faster than the other games.

Mini games are the match 3 plays where the cat must reach the top of the mountain. You match 3 or more flowers of the same kind to destroy, and every match level you complete will advance the cat higher on the mountain.

Since Many Years Ago is not in real time and does not continue its daily life while you are signed off the computer, the action in the play is faster. However, when you do leave the game, you do not come back to finished tasks. This game is a little easier to play so may be better for kids. I give it a 3 out of 5 for the colorful background and the dinosaurs.
