gl-golf

Strap on your golf shoes and grab your five iron, because it’s time to hit the (virtual) links! GL Golf is a basic, yet addicting golf game that gives you that nostalgic feeling for video games of a bygone era. Long ago arcades ruled the video game world and games like GL Golf are reminders of that golden age. With graphics that mimic the real courses that can be played, GL Golf is a fun way to spend your time without the complected new controls of recent golf games.

What makes GL Golf an intriguing game is how easy it is to play. It’s as easy as aiming where you want to hit the ball and pressing the space bar at the right power. If you want more of a challenge, you can get the classic three-click golf system that also controls the accuracy of the drive. You can also control the draw and the fade and the backspin on the ball in order to avoid hazards and control the landing spot of the ball.

In the full version of the game, there is a huge number of courses to choose from, including some of the most famous courses in the world. Another cool feature is an application for the iPhone that the creators of the game are working on (and I think have completed) that let you play GL Golf on the go. For a quick and easy round, nothing beats GL Golf and it gets three and a half stars out of five.

Boonka Review

With 60 levels, 3 game modes 15 power-ups and bonuses, and 41 challenges, Mac puzzle game Boonka will keep you busy for many hours. It’s a challenging play with fun, cute graphics, and a plea to restore the beautiful, green landscape of the Boonkas.

The evil Skours (dark clouds) have destroyed the countryside where the Boonkas reside and it is up to you to bring back the trees and flora. The play is to move similar Boonkas side by side to match and create a block then you need to put together the pixie jars in order to lift the boonkas up and away. You click and drag a boonka to group them. You can move them up down and side ways. Just make sure the boonkas do not reach the top of the screen or the game is over.

Boonka is not a match game. It is a lot more. You need to think and plan ahead so you do not get to the top of the screen. It can get challenging at times so I suggest you start off in the easy mode until you get your sea legs. Once you master the play, it becomes even more difficult, but addictive at the same time. Initially, I thought this was a children’s game with its cute cartoon boonkas, but quickly learned it is a game for everyone.

Snowy Bear Review

snowybear

Do you love that old Super Mario game where you jump around on the platforms and battle your friends. You know, the one with the TNT brick in the middle of the level to bail you out if the enemies became too overwhelming. If you know what I am talking about, then you will love Snowy Bear. This game is very similar to that game, but adds a new and interesting element. Instead of jumping on top of enemies to destroy them, you throw snowballs at them until they become one giant snowball. Once you do this, you kick the snowball, which jumps around the level and takes out the other enemies in its path. What is cool about this is that you can beat the levels very quickly but most of the time it is much more challenging to be successful with this type of attack.

The simplicity of Snowy Bear makes it great. Even though this game has been done before, it feels new and interesting. It is definitely something I could play over and over. The music is also upbeat the fun, something that can be enjoyed by the whole family. I would definitely say that the coolest part of the game is discovering the cool upgrades that you get when you destroy giant presents that drop into the level. Besides giving you extra points, these presents often give you something else like an extra life or in one case a helicopter that allows you to fly around the entire level and attack your enemies that way. There are also boss levels at the end of the stages which are both challenging and a good change of pace from the regular game. This is one of those special games that you know are just plain fun. I give Snowy Bear five out of five stars.
