Party Down Review

Party Down2

As an aspiring Hollywood actor, what is the best way to get “into the business.” Well, as movies and TV have taught me, it is to become a waiter and make friends with stars while you work. What could be better than getting paid to basically pad your resume with whatever you can think of? Nothing, and that is the premise of Party Down.

The game starts with the main character wondering if his or her life will ever amount to more than just cheesy car commercials. The next thing you know, an ad for a catering company comes on TV and as you have already hit rock bottom, why not give them a call? Despite the one in a million shot of actually going to work at an event that actually could be helpful, you decide to call and apply. Lucky for you the catering company has gone crazy and decided to put you on Angelina (I’m assuming Jolie)’s birthday party. What a first day!

So first of all, this game reminded me completely of The Sims, from the graphics to the actions of the characters. Unlike The Sims, Party Down does not let you control the actions of the guest, but has you catering to their every whim. If a guest would like to dance, drag them to the dance floor. If a guest wants to have a conversation about something, drag them to the conversation area. If a guest is hungry, you must run around the room bringing them whatever they desire. It’s actually more like work than it is a game.

All in all, if you are a fan of sim games, this game will not disappoint. It provides a solid game with quality graphics that could keep you busy for a while. Personally, I wasn’t the biggest fan of this game, as I found the activities boring and the neediness of the characters somewhat annoying. It felt more like babysitting than playing a game. I would give Party Down two and a half stars out of five.
