Take to the seas in this drunken and rowdy poker game as a pirate searching to make some gold. A 5-card draw game, Pirate Poker is poker and pirates’ fun all mixed into one. Make a bet and get dealt your cards. Win, and get a chance to double your winnings by playing a memory game that you usually see being played by a shifty guy on a street corner. Collect as much gold as you can to become the richest poker pirate on a Mac.
Pirate Poker takes video poker and comes up with a bunch of variations that could be played with a pirate theme. Such games as Deuces Wild (2’s could be anything) and Aces and Faces (The classic Jack’s or Better) are among four other 5-card draw games to be found. A big surprise found in this game was the option to play more than one hand at a time. Having ten hands but only playing one was confusing at first. You would have to bet the amount of money for ten hands, but when it came time to hold a card, it would be held for all ten hands and the rest for the cards dealt would be random for the ten hands. Strange, but fun and rewarding. You could make a lot of money that way and with the bonus game, you could make even more.
Pirate Poker does not have much more than video poker, but I still found it very fun. The minigame/bonus game of memorizing which cup a coin is in was a good twist. The ambience and music was a nice touch, as were the custom cards. I give Pirate Poker a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Poker with rum, what could be more fun?
