Pixie Review

Pixie

Pixie is a fast paced action, puzzle that puts Pixie the fairy in a land devoid of beauty and full of bugs. It is your goal to destroy all the disgusting insects and spread flowers and plants. I do not know exactly what this game would be classified as, but the goal of the game is to “clean up” around 85 percent of the level without getting killed.

The way a level is won is by flying around and strategically sectioning off parts of the stage. Pixie loses life if her vine (which is the physical divider) is hit by bugs while in the process of growing. If you successfully section off a piece of the level, it becomes unavailable for the enemies to get to, which is both helpful and harmful. Enemies that get caught in the sectioned off area are felled and do not have to be worried about. If you are able to kill all the enemies in the process, you receive a bonus.

As the game progresses, Pixie comes across some interesting designs and strange bugs. When you have reached a certain level, you are able to return to that part, if you lose all your lives. If you are unlucky and lose all your lives, the game lets you return to a certain part, but does penalize you for dying. There are also boss stages. I won’t ruin the surprise now, but they are unique and difficult.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game. It was fun and fast paced, always keeping me on the edge of my seat. If there was one thing I would change, it would be the process of dividing the stage in the later part of the level. After the majority of the level is partitioned off, it becomes tedious to clear large sections without making a lot of different vines. This may be a preference thing, but I thought I would address it. All in all, this was a very good game and I would give it four stars out of five.

*As of 4/09 there are new upgrades: new bosses, new bonuses (incl. a 100% fill bonus!), new effects, more gold coins. Thanks to the developers for listening to our suggestion. Macgames.info appreciates it, and I’m sure all your fans out there do too.

If you have them, I used the freeze, shield or the bomb to get past S.Q. It looks like it would be easy, but it’s not. Good Luck!

thanks for the review! we took your comments to heart regarding sectioning off during the latter part of the game and so we are in the process of adding a bonus that fills the board 100%. you will have to buy it in the shop and it WILL be expensive but if players can afford it, it would eliminate the need to tediously block off the last parts of each level. stayed tuned for pixie’s update. there will be even more features that improve game play.

Pause the game simply by pressing on the P key of your keyboard. Toggling between full screen and window mode requires that you restart the game.
