Puzzle Quest is both a RPG and a match 3 or more play rolled up into one interesting Mac game. It has the traditional medieval story line in which you get to choose your hero from a druid, wizard, knight or warrior. You go on quests and battle enemies. What more do you need in a role playing game? Puzzle Quest goes one step further by adding a challenging match 3 game as the battle grounds for your quests.
After choosing your person, you go to the site with a red explanation mark over it. After clicking on it, it will give you options to choose from. If you choose quest, it will sent you out to different cities and sites of the kingdom and usually will send you to battle. The fighting is all done on the match 3 or more like objects game board. You take turns making matches against your opponent. You have to think ahead and strategize in order to beat your enemy. Making matches with the skulls will inflict damage on your opponent and you. The color orbs will increase the mana and the gold will increase your wealth.
The money will let you shop for necessities: weapons, armor and helms. Also you eventually can own your own castle, and with any castle you must make upgrades and improvements to it. Any decent castle needs a respectable dungeon to keep your enemies close in order to get them to teach you their spells or train them so you use them for transportation. There are other options to build besides a castle like erecting a temple. This will take you on different types of quests.
Puzzle Quest has so many options, quests and fighting to keep RPG gamers and match 3 players happy for many hours. RPGers may not be too thrilled with the match game but that play is a lot more challenging than you might first think. Give it a try. Match players will get to learn from an easy tutorial in the RPG side of the game. I found this game easy to learn and fun as well. In addition, by playing as different characters will take you in different paths and outcomes. Whether a RPG or match player, enjoy this unique and fun game.
