Virtual Villagers – The Secret City Review

Virtual Villagers – The Secret City is a sequel to Virtual Villagers 2 and is a similar traditional sim play as the first 2 games. This epic story continues on the mysterious Isola Isle.

A group of villagers ventured out to sea in order to populate another part of the island, but ran into a tremendous storm and before they could return, they landed on the north shore of the island unknown to anyone without provisions to start over. The area they found themselves in was an ancient ruined city.

The play in Virtual Villagers – The Secret City is to train the villagers to rebuild this once flourishing city and to provide everything they may need to survive. Also in this game are the deep, dark mysteries of Isola Island that you must unravel.

It’s not always easy to teach villagers to do certain tasks; especially when they are not willing because they do not have the training. Sometimes you may need to encourage them more than once. You click on your person and drag him/her to where you want them to perform their duties. Just remember the children do not work or swim. They only play, but they do pick up objects every now and then.

This game is played in real time and weather, and you can leave the game and return later if you cannot play for a long time. However, beware that at times a villager or more will die. It may be from old age or disease. It’s really sad when you lose a lot of villagers, but hey, it’s only a game – start over and move on. I found this sequel is a little more difficult to develop than the previous games even though there are more adults to begin the play. This game can go on for hours but the advantage is if you leave the game when the villagers are in good shape with plenty of food and resources, they will thrive without you so be sure to save up the points for upgrades to improve the conditions for your people.
